Community Support Worker
12 month Fixed Term Contract, 25 hours per week
Location: Galway Aspergers Outreach Support, Co. Galway
About the Role:
The purpose of the job is to promote and support independent living and community integration, personal development, social interactions and work opportunities for people with Aspergers.
What We’re Looking For:
- QQI Level 5 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
- Ideally you will have participated in accredited Asperger’s-related training.
- Willingness to participate in RehabCare mandatory and further development training programme.
- Ideally 1 to 2 years’ work experience supporting individuals with Asperger’s.
- Previous experience of working 1:1 in the Community or in person’s homes.
- Experience of promoting self-advocacy.
- Experience in the provision of personal care.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation (New Directions, Health & Safety Acts, Assisted Decision Making Act, GDPR, to name a few) ideally.
- To support individuals with independent living skills.
- To maintain a basic knowledge of first aid/personal care and to implement good hygiene practices.
- Strong I.T. and reporting skills.
- Flexible with regards to working hours in order to meet the needs of the individuals.
- Understand and knowledge of Asperger’s and or mental health disability.

Your Responsibilities:
- To plan, develop, implement, monitor and review appropriate educational, recreational and occupational programs within the community or in their own home ensuring best practice in line with up to date research regarding improving people Quality of Life. To liaise with families, the multidisciplinary team and key community based personnel in the pursuit of accessible community activities for clients.
- Liaise with the Programme Supervisor through regular meetings, reviews and daily contact to uphold the values of Social Role Valorisation
- To ensure all interaction with clients is approached with dignity, respect, equality and incorporates choice
- Establish a productive partnership with the individual (s) by devising a mutual agreement on how to work together to ensure expectations are set, responsibilities are met, and respect, honesty and transparency are demonstrable.
- Support the individual to enhance their image by exploring and positively influencing personal presentation, language and where and how the individual spends their time. This should be in line with the individual’s age and culture
- Develop and improve the individual’s competencies in their areas of interests and assets through dedicating time to get to know them and matching them to opportunities in their own community. Likely opportunities will relate to housing, employment and relationships.
- Develop a community profile that reflects the individual’s interests and assets through researching the local area and making contacts to find valued roles for the individual.
- Collaborate with families and other natural supports through regular communication to ensure that sustainable support is in place for the individual to get a Good Life.
- Identify and recruit/attract people that can make up the individual’s network of support, for example, educators, employers, people with similar interests, peer supporters, in order to enhance the individual’s life opportunities and valued social roles.
- Continuous learning about the individual by observing and spending time with them in relevant valued settings to assess competency and ensure we have the most accurate and up to date information about the individual and conditions needed for their success.
- Engage in reflective practice by attending and contributing to reflective practice sessions with colleagues and as directed by the Supervisor to reinforce the quality of the work is underpinned by Social Role Valorisation.
- Engage in RehabCare training as required and identify a relevant training and development plan through supervision in line with Health and Safety, Adult Protection legislation and for overall Continuous Professional Development.
- Keep up to date records in line with RehabCare policy and regulations using RehabCare’s online recording system ensuring Data Protection and quality assurance.
- Any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Programme Supervisor/Community Services Manager.
Additional Requirements:
* Full driving licence is essential.
If applicable, candidates will need to provide a police certificate for any country they've lived in before moving to Ireland
A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign.
Salary starting from point 1 €29,374.70 to point 5 €33,489.25 (pro rata), is subject to negotiation depending on experience and qualification.
