Disability Support Officer
12 Months, 36 hours per week
South Dublin
The Disability Support Officer works on an outreach basis within City of Dublin Further Education and Training colleges. The role provides advice, information and support, in relation to practical learning and support needs, to students with disabilities
The Disability Support Officer will work closely with college staff and management and will assist in identifying student needs. This will involve carrying out a needs assessment and putting in place any reasonable accommodation that is required to ensure that a student with a disability can participate fully in the FET College. They will be responsible for the preparation and completion of funding applications to the Fund for Students with Disabilities.
The suitable person will be required to meet deadlines and work as part of a team. They will deal with a diverse and sensitive range of inquiries and will deliver a quality and confidential support service to students while retaining a sensitive approach to their practical learning support needs and concerns.
What we're looking for:
* Candidates must hold a relevant degree, preferably in Social Science, Education or a related area
* A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Further Education environment or within the disability field
* Comprehensive knowledge of disabilities and their effects in education
* Knowledge of the range of reasonable accommodations/adjustments available and the appropriate use of such accommodations/adjustments
Your Responsibilities
* Assess and manage prospective and current students with disabilities academic and support requirements in order to facilitate full participation in the life of the institute
* Oversee and administer the completion of learning educational needs’ reports which outline the needs of the students. Carry out regular monitoring regarding the adequate delivery of stated supports including audit and service evaluation with colleagues within the service to help develop service provision and complete end of year college reviews
* Administer applications for the fund for students with disabilities (FSD) and monitor and maintain agreed records in relation to the provision of services provided to particular students from the FSD on behalf of the CDETB.
* Manage a case load of students with disabilities across a number of sites in order to monitor and oversee the delivery of academic supports to them including referring students, when appropriate, to other school services, i.e. psychologist, guidance counsellor, VTOS, literacy.
Salary starting from point 1 €35,039.55 to point 3 € €38,755.00 (pro rata), depending on experience and qualifications.
