Assistant Instructor 

Permanent Contract, Full-time 36 hours per week

Location NLN Letterkenny

County Donegal

 

Job Purpose

The Assistant Rehabilitative Training Programme aims to support learners with personal, social, and vocational development, fostering independence and integration. The Instructor will work within a multidisciplinary team, supporting individuals with ASD, intellectual, physical, or sensory disabilities using person-centred approaches and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Experience or openness to ABA is essential. Key responsibilities include one-to-one key working, creating individualised plans, and delivering QQI-accredited modules. Strong initiative, creativity, and excellent communication and teamwork skills are vital for this learner-focused, inclusive environment, guided by the New Directions policy for independent decision-making and personal growth. 

 

What we’re looking for:

 

*        Education and Training to 3rd level standard – Youth and Community Work, Teaching or Adult Education 

*        A relevant pedagogical/training qualifications e.g. Train the Trainer

*        Experience of working with young people with additional support needs including intellectual disabilities, ASD, physical and sensory needs and/or mental health difficulties

*        Experience in developing and delivering QQI accredited modules

*        Experience of supporting the development of person-centred plans and future/transition plans

 
 

Your Responsibilities

  • Programme Delivery & Training - Develop and deliver Rehabilitative Training (RT) programmes using a person-centred approach, ensuring innovation, creativity, and adherence to curriculum requirements.
  • Learner Support & Key Working - Provide one-to-one key working support, helping learners develop person-centred plans aligned with their personal goals and the New Directions ethos.
  • Progress Monitoring & Reporting - Maintain training records and learner progress data in line with internal and external quality standards, producing required reports.
  • Inclusive Teaching Methods - Use diverse teaching methods including assistive technologies, arts, drama, music, and community-based learning to support learners' goals.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement - Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to develop innovative rehabilitation interventions and contribute to the ongoing improvement of NLN services.

Salary starting from point 1 €25726.28 (pro-rata) equivalent to €13.74 per hour, is subject to negotiation depending on experience and qualification.
